Hiking Intipunku in Ollantaytambo

Day hike
Easy
Age 12+
All year round

This trek is one day and takes you through different landscapes that are considered sacred in the impressive mountains of the Sacred Valley of the Incans. Intipunku is the most visited spot of offerings by Andean Priest. Not only does this place have a lot of cultural significance, but it is where you can find quarries of pink rock and the historic site of Choquetacarpu.

We will start the trek in a car headed to the town of Ollantaytambo (2790 meters above sea level), an ancient Incan City. The hike begins at a historic bridge that has been preserved for thousands of years. We will ascend to the ancient sanctuary of Intipunku (3800 meters above sea level). The site is in the direction of the snowy Mount Veronica, a mountain considered to be an ancient protector of the Sacred Valley of the Incas.

Along the trek we will see the historic site of Choquetacarpu and the Incan quarries of Cacchiccata where the Incas obtained the materials to build the city of Ollantaytambo. We will return to Cusco the same way that we arrived at Ollantaytambo.
